About TEDx speaking

How are TEDx speakers chosen?

Each TEDx event is run by a local volunteer team under a free license from TED, and that team chooses its own speakers. Some open a speaker application or nomination form, some invite speakers they already know, and many do both. TED itself does not accept speaker applications for TEDx events.

Why does this list only show events 4 or more months away?

TEDx organizers rarely publish a speaker deadline, and most finish choosing speakers several months before the event so there is time to coach and rehearse. Events stay on this list while they are at least 4 months out, when a well-matched idea still has a chance.

Are TEDx speakers paid?

No. TED's rules forbid paying TEDx speakers and forbid charging speakers to appear. Some events cover local travel. Speakers value TEDx for the professionally filmed talk and the credibility that comes with it. Be wary of anyone who asks you to pay for a TEDx slot.

What if an event has no speaker form?

Visit the organizer's website or social pages, which are linked from each listing when we find them, or use the contact option on the event's TED.com page. Send a short note with your idea in one sentence, why you are the person to share it, and any tie you have to the city.
